Watched most of this book on Lynda.com, but having the text is helpful. Nigel knows InDesign and tpye!

if you are in Typography and Adobe inDesign then this book is a must have. It explains in understandable terms all aspects of typography in InDesign.

Nigel French is the foremost authority on the best typographic practices using InDesign. The fact that this is the fourth edition says it all: this book continues to be so popular because it is so good. My previous editions of his book are well worn! Nigel's explanatory style is easy to understand and to follow, his book is comprehensive and precise. This new edition is expanded and covers the CC version of InDesign, an important update. It also has more colorful annotations on every spread. I am a fan of Nigel's Lynda.com courses as well as his books, and even though I use InDesign extensively, I always learn something new from Nigel.

I'm almost done reading this book (cover to cover). Even tho' I've used the program for years, there's so much to learn and it answers a lot of nagging questions. This is a great resource and my book is filled with tiny post-its to flag important info. I heard the author, Nigel French, speak at CreativePro Week last June. I highly recommend this book for any InDesign user.p.s. this was a perfect gift from a friend.

Just like the other reviewers, I’m not a beginner with InDesign and this book still taught me so much. It has increased my efficiency and changed how I approach a document. It’s a good straight-through read, and it is also useful when you need to troubleshoot a particular problem in an existing document. What I particularly value about this book is that it is well written, it gives pertinent examples with useful explanations, and it’s written by someone who has a background in creating long documents where typographic subtleties matter. This book has been a game-changer for me.

I've been using InDesign for 15 years and still learned a lot from this book.

I'm not a beginner with InDesign but this book shows me how little I know and better ways to work. If you are a beginner the book will get you started and if you are experienced you will learn more. It is comprehensive and clearly written, starts with the basics and moves on from there. If you are buying your first book on InDesign, you won't find a better choice.

The sound was stabbing, slicing, shivering, like metal scraping against stone. Eragon's teeth vibrated in sympathy, and he covered his ears with his hands, grimacing as he twisted around, trying to locate the source of the noise. Saphira tossed her head, and even through the din, he heard her whine in distress. Eragon swept his gaze over the courtyard twice before he noticed a faint puff of dust rising up the wall of the keep from a foot-wide crack that had appeared beneath the blackened, partially destroyed window where Blödhgarm had killed the magician. As the squeal increased in intensity, Eragon risked lifting a hand off one ear to point at the crack. "Look!" he shouted to Arya, who nodded in acknowledgment. He replaced his hand over his ear. Without warning or preamble, the sound stopped.Eragon waited for a moment, then slowly lowered his hands, for once wishing that his hearing was not quite so sensitive. Just as he did, the crack jerked open wider--spreading until it was several feet across--and raced down the wall of the keep. Like a bolt of lightning, the crack struck and shattered the keystone above the door to the building, showering the floor below with pebble-sized rocks. The whole castle groaned, and from the damaged window to the broken keystone, the front of the keep began to lean outward. "Run!" Eragon shouted at the Varden, though the men were already scattering to either side of the courtyard, desperate to get out from under the precarious wall. Eragon took a single step forward, every muscle in his body tense as he searched for a glimpse of Roran somewhere in the throng of warriors. At last Eragon spotted him, trapped behind the last group of men by the doorway, bellowing madly at them, his words lost in the commotion. Then the wall shifted and dropped several inches, leaning even farther away from the rest of the building, pelting Roran with rocks, knocking him off balance and forcing him to stumble backward under the overhang of the doorway. As Roran straightened from a crouch, his eyes met Eragon's, and in his gaze, Eragon saw a flash of fear and helplessness, quickly followed by resignation, as if Roran knew that, no matter how fast he ran, he could not possibly reach safety in time. A wry smile touched Roran's lips. And the wall fell. Text © 2011 by Christopher Paolini.

I thoroughly enjoyed Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance of Chris Paolini's The Inheritance Cycle series. Originally intended as a trilogy, their bestselling success spawned a fourth book, which was a very welcome addition. I have since handed them down to my nephew where they are enjoying a new life with a new generation.Though they've been out for quite awhile now, I have to be honest and say I bought them years ago, and only got them off the shelf a few months ago. Having been grown up as an avid fan of Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings, and the usual fantasy fare, I was pretty excited to re-enter that universe. These have been reviewed ad infinitum; so I think I can really only add to the discussion my own experience with the four book as a 47-year-old reader. I was a bit concerned that they might be written a bit too much for kids, as I'd heard they were. But, I have to say, I was definitely misinformed. These are as applicable to adults as the Harry Potter or Hunger Games books or any other well-written fantasy tales that were initially marketed to the teen reader market, but obviously found runaway success with readers from all age brackets. In short, each of the four books was a very fun read, and I would absolutely recommend the series to anyone with an interest in the fantasy genre.

A very engaging read. Don't be deterred by criticism. I did not read this series for a long time after hearing much criticism of the young author and now regret that I did not read it sooner. There is a review on here stating that the book is only decent for a 17 year old to have written but not an adult, and that is nonsense. You would not know it was written by a 17 year old unless you were told and it is criticized unfairly because of his age. He does not "borrow" fantasy elements from more widely known authors any more than those widely known authors borrowed from ancient fairy tails. Tolkien and Le Guinn were not any more creative, many fantasy elements in their stories go back to before their stories as well. But this author is judged much more harshly and unjustly because he is young by people who are unable to form their own opinions and blindly judge the worth of a book by its acclaim. And the fact that this book is not a cult classic such as Tolkein's should not affect its merit. It is a very good book and is only insulted by those jealous of the young author's success.

My favorite dragon series is Paolini's. Why do I like it? Of course, Saphira, the Blue Dragon , is a wonderful character. She is a wise and wise-cracking creature with a tremendous sense of humor. Eragon is a believable hero who grows in complexity as he ages and meets the many challenges in his life. We meet elves, dwarves, sorcerers, monsters, witches , a werecat and humans , some good, some evil. What sets this series above the typical dragon fantasy is its very practical understanding of politics. I am amazed at the astuteness of the young author of these works. He understands the impact politics has on our morality and presents numerous examples of the dangers all of us face when presented with political decision making.

Can’t say it’s the best written book ever if you’re an adult. Much of the book is written a little vanilla plain. However, it is a very good story and well written considering Pasolini was fifteen years old when he started to write this novel. This entire series is worth reading a few times. Don’t waste your time on the movie as it’s nothing like the book and the only thing used from the book in the movie is the character names.

On pages: 237-244 and 261-268 there is a black strip at the top, the margins are screwed up, the page numbers are at different heights. I'm assuming that this is a printing issue, so I'm doing a return. There is also a lot of adhesive residue on the back cover.Edit 1: this is ridiculous. This replacement is also damaged, and mismade. The dust cover is bunched and slightly torn. The printing on the dust cover is off center, to the point that the spine text looks fully right aligned, not centered. Dropping to one star, because this is unacceptable.

I liked reading this book so that I could discuss it with my grandson who'd read it. He let me know he'd read the series, but warned me the movie wasn't so hot. I suppose for a fantasy novel (of which genre I rarely read), it was fine. The best part was enjoying with someone else. I think it's pretty impressive that the author wrote it at such a young age too. There's a lot of imagination here, but at times, I felt like Paolini was trying to be a Tolkein, and just adding a dragon into the mix.

#6,110 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Free in Kindle Store)

I will admit, I am not one to normally check out ecookbooks. But I am glad I checked this one out. This cookbook features some delicious recipes (with pictures included) of traditional Israeli/Mediterranean dishes and desserts. Now what I absolutely loved is that they author included the Western measurements. Take for instance 10g of baking powder. In the US, that would be 1 Tbs. So no searching around on the web to find out what the conversion is!!I also liked that these meals/desserts are pretty simple. Take the Malabi (a milk pudding). The recipe goes like this:2 cups of milk or coconut milk5 Tbsp cornstarch1/2 Tbsp rose water1/2 cup cream1/4 cup sugarFor serving:Chopped almonds, pistachios and/or strawberry syrupPut 1/2 cup of milk in a bowl with the cornstarch and rose water and mix until you have a smooth, even mixturePut the cream, sugar and remaining 1 1/2 cups milk in a pot and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, add cornstarch mixture and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.Pour into serving bowls and cool to room temperature. Transfer to the fridge to chill for 4 hours, or overnight.Drizzle with strawberry syrup and sprinkle with nuts just before serving.Tip: To make the recipe parve and vegan, replace the milk with coconut milk.See, even someone who rarely cooks or bakes can make that and not screw it up!!!How many stars will I give Sweets, Holidays and Family Recipes-Israeli-Mediterranean Cookbook? 5Will I read it again? Yes. I actually plan on making some of the recipes featured. Will I reccomend it to family and friends? YesAge range? All agesDisclaimer: I received Sweets, Holidays and Family Recipes-Israeli-Mediterranean Cookbook from eBookPro for free for my honest review. All opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone.

Sweets, Holidays and Family Recipes - Israeli-Mediterranean Cookbook (Cook In Israel - Kosher Recipes, Mediterranean Cooking 1)I have been in the Food and Restaurant industry for many years and the expression of Food and Beverage has always been my passion, so I am the most critical when it comes the display and presentation of anything related. Although, I normally like an elaborate artful display of food art, when illustrating recipes, I can appreciate the fact that these recipes and this book are authentic and the ethnic origins of the recipes have taught me. I love to learn about cultures and what their food entails and I also think it’s an amazing privilege to be a part of and to celebrate another culture. With that said, this recipe book was delightful, it truly was. It’s filled with love and passion for the Eastern European Regional Cuisine I adore from wonderful places such as Greece, Balkan, Bulgaria and Israel to name a few. The authors’ recipes choices are a simple great reflection of the culture. The recipes are basic enough to follow for the beginning home cook, but interesting and different enough for the experienced chef to appreciate. Baking is not only an experience, but an art that isn’t easily mastered and recipes that are sometimes hard to duplicate and teach. These recipes are tried and true and I was able to reciprocate without fault and prepare them for my family. The Chocolate and Halva Babka, the Fruit and Tahini Crumble and the Plum Cake are my favorites. I also cater to true vegetarians and I appreciate the recipes allowing me to do so. Anyway, I like and enjoyed reading this recipe book and I recommend it to anyone who loves learning other cultures and there cuisines, loves good pastries and sweets and enjoys baking. I did receive this book at a heavily discounted price in exchange for my feedback; however the seller/author has no influence over my opinion whatsoever.

The Cook In Israel Sweets, Holidays and Family Recipes is a beautiful cookbook filled with family recipes. The author has provided recipes with a vegetarian emphasis and has included both savory and sweet recipes in her cookbook. You will also find plenty of beautiful color photos depicting the recipes. Some of the recipes you will find include:Baked Pasta (pasta, cottage cheese, sour cream or cream cheese, feta, Cheddar cheese, olive oil and eggs)Meatballs in Tomato SauceApple JamHamantaschenCinnamon Rolls (with a homemade sugar syrup topping)Coconut Chocolate CakeThere is an interactive table of contents making navigation easy.Recommend.Penmouse

Lots of wonderful recipes in this cookbook. I had a few plums I needed to use up so I made the Plum Cake. It was so good. Looking forward to making many more of the recipes in this book. Most of them are made with ingredients most of us have in our pantries and the recipes are not long and complicated. I received a copy for free for my review. No other compensation was received. Opinions are my own.

Is an interesting cookbook in that with each recipe Orly explained what it was and where in the Jewish Holiday it fell in --- she had pictures of each recipe and they all looked delicious. Particularly liked how most of the recipes had stuff you already had laying about the house! Did jot a couple down and do plant to make!

I discovered and copied a lot of these fabulous recipes, some being variations to those I get up with. This collection is well written and organized, with colorful photographs.

Recipe after recipe, everything sounds delicious!! This is definitely a keeper even though I thought I was downloading a cookbook for the Mediterranean "diet"! Jokes on me!! These will be savored for special moments!!YES, YES, I definitely recommend buying this book!!

The Notes: Ronald Reagan's Private Collection of Stories and Wisdom, by Ronald Reagan

From Publishers Weekly

In 2010, researchers at the Reagan Library discovered a box of index cards containing jokes, literary quotes, and excerpts from speeches written in Reagan's own hand and arranged under rubrics such as "On Liberty," "On War," and "On the People." Rice University history professor Brinkley, who also edited The Reagan Diaries, suggests Reagan began collecting these as spokesman for General Electric beginning in 1954 and continuing until his death in 2004. Readers uncertain if Reagan hated taxes ("Justice O. W. Holmes: "Keep govt. poor and remain free") and communism (Pravda: the communist program is "all embracing & all bloodsoaked reality"), or if he loved God, liberty, and the Constitution (Daniel Webster: "if the const. shall fail there will be anarchy throughout the world") will find answers here. Even the jokes show a conservative bent. The squibs are from sources as far-ranging as Dale Carnegie, Solzhenitsyn, G.K. Chesterton, and even Chairman Mao (on marriage). Admirers will find plenty to admire in these jottings and nothing to change their view of Reagan, but rather confirmation of the vision they already have. 9 b&w photos. (May)

Review

“The book offers a window into the mind of the nation’s 40th president and displays the effort he made behind the scenes to hone his performance as a speechmaker and storyteller driving home a conservative political philosophy.” (USA Today)“This volume provides an illuminating glimpse into Reagan’s mind. . . . The entries show the directness of Reagan’s thought and his uncanny ability to make a point.” (The Daily)“These notes are wonderful things. . . . Although a few recent books have proclaimed to have finally uncovered the real Reagan, there’s a chance we’ll never get any closer than in these scribbles, which reveal so much.” (Christopher Buckley, Bloomberg News)“Now with the discovery of his note cards, we can better appreciate just how hard Reagan himself labored to be clear and convincing—and, yes, sometimes funny—to his many audiences.” (The American Spectator)“This is a book to return to often and sample the collected wisdom found there that buttressed a remarkable man’s vision.” (The Washington Times)

Actually, I bought this initially on my Kindle (first generation) - but I will be buying the hard copy also, that's how much I was entertained as well as educated by it.I am a quote junkie and saw the Editor, Douglas Brinkley, on one of the morning programs who explained that while it's true Reagan was a master communicator, he was also very prepared. A box of full of Reagan's "notes" was discovered in 2010. Reagan collected quotes, poems, and one liners that resonated with him and filed them in a black photo album. This is a short book, I read it in one afternoon, but it is a book I will turn to again and again for when I need inspiration or a laugh or trying to understand history or politics. The quotes are divided into these subjects: On Nation, On Liberty, On War, On the People, On Religion, The World, On Character (one of my most highlighted chapters), On Political Theater, Humor (the second most highlighted chapter). There is a glossary at the conclusion of The Notes that lists more information on the people the quotes are attributed to...some are well known to me: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, but I loved that I was able to learn of authors that I was not so familiar with: Graham Barden, Whittaker Chambers, Gilbert Chesterton.I will be gifting to this to many many people for graduations, birthdays, and Christmas. This is for people who love history, love politics, love quotes, and of course, love Reagan. Also, after reading it, I thought it would make a great gift to ALL political parties in office - it's a humbling, often humorous reminder of what this country fought for, stands for and yet most of today's politicians seem to have forgot. If my house caught fire, and I could only save one book - it would be The Notes; that's how much I loved it.

My 13 & 16 year old sons loved this book! Both of them read it from cover to cover. Just the right amount of wisdom and humor to keep them turning the pages. They liked it so much I bought another copy to give away. Excellent book for your coffee table! Easy read, and thought provoking. Will probably buy it over and over throughout the years for gifts.

A perfect coffee table book. A nice way to reflect on quotes, sometimes by other people, that this beloved president has said. This would make a great gift indeed. Very happy to have this in my book collection. Recommended indeed, money well spent. Have a great day.

What a delightful book! Here we have Ronald Reagan's jottings of thoughts and observations, jokes and quotations, preserved on his ever-present 4 x 6 note cards. Watch a film of the 'Great Communicator' preparing to speak, and you may find him slipping his hand in his suit pocket, deftly withdrawing and then arranging his cards as he waves, smiles, accepts applause and looks across his audience. His ubiquitous note cards were each written to be self-contained, with an eye toward prospective rearrangement for future presentations. This system--a description he might have smilingly dismissed as rather grand--comprised a vital element of his extraordinary effectiveness as a communicator.Historian Douglas Brinkley has done a masterful job of classifying the cards into topics such as: 'On the Nation,' 'On the People,' 'On Religion,', 'On Character,' and so on. My favorite--and I suspect, the favorite of many--is the final section, 'Humor.' Reagan's voice is remains familiar, even intimate, in his use of humor as a persuasive tool, a management tool, indeed, a way to approach the seriousness of leadership and life and work.Especially for younger readers, Brinkley adds value with a glossary of the many individuals whose words or actions populate the cards. The index is also invaluable. Those who--somehow, against all evidence--continue at this late date to underestimate Reagan's discipline and thought process will find much to reflect upon in this book. So, too, those who have studied or written about or served under Reagan (or done a bit of each, such as myself) will find much to appreciate in this newly discovered trove of work, direct from his pen.I recommend this book most highly. It's a useful addition to any library: on Reagan, on history, on leadership, on communication. Most importantly--and, perhaps, most enduringly--as Brinkley declares in the introduction, Reagan's notes 'constitute a love song to America.'

Gosh, is there anything more to say about President Reagan? He was the greatest we've ever had! If you enjoyed his diaries, you will truly love this gem of collected quotes amassed by Reagan. I visited the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley and this was one book that I regretted not purchasing over there. It's broken into chapters by themes and they span all sorts of issues. The quotes are timeless and chilling, considering what we are currently going through as a country and a planet. If you are a fan of Reagan, this is a must-have for your home's library, or perhaps a gift for that token conservative in your group of friends! Enjoy!

An excellent book on one of our greatest American Presidents. Providing a unique personal perspective on how President Reagan thought and communicated in private.

Fantastic, reading his words was like recalling my life and or watching First Gump. I began listening too Ronald Reagan sharing thoughts of wisdom and common sense as a young teenager. Always inspirational. I still miss him.

Nice, quick read. Thought provoking - even if you aren't a fan of Reagan.
