My 3 year old loves the hell out of these books. He particularly loves this one as he enjoys the scenes with tons of varieties of cars and other vehicles. For those that aren't aware, these are similar to "Where's Waldo" except the scenes are less cluttered and more interesting. The goal is to find characters or objects listed in the front of the book. The characters may have a car or a hat in one scene, and may be different enough in another scene to keep things interesting for Pre-K kids and keeps them from looking for a single key feature of each character.
This book looks similar to the Richard Scarry books but they differ in important ways. Each page tells a story of what different people do during their day and offfers children and adults to talk with each other. Then, on the next pages the stories progress and characters develop further. It's delightful for both children and adults. Children, looking at the book by themselves, will derive benefits of course but it's the interaction between adult and child that makes reading this book so delightful
My 3 year old loves listening to the stories we make up about the different characters throughout the book. He also likes to just look at the pictures on long car rides. We'll be getting more in this series of books.
Our daughter loves the Wimmelbooks. It allows her to use her imagination and she creates her own stories around the characters.
I wish the items to find were not merely in the front of the book... like maybe on a flap that you could refer to on every page... but it does lengthen the time spent on the book because you can go through the entire book looking for just one thing at a time (because that thing is in every scene.) Kids loved doing this during quiet times or waiting in doctor offices.
This is one of the best Wimmelboooks (WB) we own. There are not too many figures on the pages, yet enough to keep little ones interested for a long time. The best part is that one can follow various families throughout the book, which makes for countless conversations. Plus, the author thought of every possible vehicle from hovercrafts to hot rods, this book is made for little car enthusiasts.
My toddler LOVES this book. We ended up buying the construction version too.
