MURRAY CARPENTER has reported caffeine-related stories for the New York Times, Wired, National Geographic, NPR, and PRI’s The World. He has also written for the Boston Globe, the Christian Science Monitor and other media outlets. He holds a degree in psychology from the University of Colorado and an MS in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana, and has worked as a medical lab assistant in Ohio, a cowboy in Colombia, a farmhand in Virginia, and an oil-exploring “juggie” in Wyoming. He lives in Belfast, Maine.

I LOVE THIS BOOK I want to know all about caffeine, the dangers the heart the industry etc. Just when was was really into this book it was over (the last 30 pages or so were notes I didn't realize I was near the end. The author went around the earth for his research - thats devotion. The book has made me aware - read the label, pace my self, moderation is the key. Hell its not gonna kill me unless I drink those KING SIZE cans or cups ( no names) Kids aren't aware they drink alot (just because the cup holds almost a quart thats not "a cup" Today my "cup" is 6 ounces...... Don't get me started on pain killers coffee ice cream, gum jell bars, etc.....

I enjoyed reading the book. It starts off with a history of the major sources of caffeine: coffee, tea, chocolate. I learned about the caffeine industry, and about all of the various foods and drinks that contain it.Among other things, there are warnings about the danger of consuming caffeine and alcohol together, whether in caffeinated alcoholic beverages or by drinking energy drinks with alcohol.The book ends with (IMHO) an appeal to our legislators to require labeling to disclose not only the presence of caffeine in our foods but the amount too.A lot of good information.

I learned a ton from this book. That being said, the format is a little on the sensational side. Towards the end it becomes much more informative.

More of a history book and less on the impact on the human body. It was still an interesting read.
